WALT: ask questions as we read to make sure we understand what we read.
What is this going to be about? What do I already know that will help me understand? what do I want to find out?
We can question as we read…
what does that mean? what is going to happen next? what else do I want to know?
We can question after we read…
does that make sense? what have I learned? have I answered my earlier questions? what else do I want to know?

    • I learned to: ask questions about the story before i start to read
    • Most challenging was: predicting  and thinking about what the story is going to be before i read
    • Next step is to: look at the contents to help give me some ideas
Harriet, you have really thought hard about how questioning is going to help you as a reader. You do use predicting and questioning successfully before you read and these help you to 'tune in' to the text so you can start thinking about what you already know (like when we were reading about the Colossal Squid)Remember to keep asking questions and wondering as you read to stay an active reader  I think these are skills and strategies you use without even knowing you are using them! Your next step is to concentrate during group time and share your wonderful ideas with us.Kerri

Sharing our Stories
We have been creating a variety of art pieces this term. These pieces are all about ourselves and sharing our stories. We have used different media like collage, watercolour, crayon and clay to create our art. We are beginning to make choices as artists. Each piece of art shares a little about us.

WALT:     share our stories and ideas through art.
WALT:     explore a variety of media and make choices about how we want our finished piece to look

Success criteria:    * our message is clear
                * our art represents us
                * we have tried different media
                * we choose the media to create the
effect we want

I Think
My Buddy Thinks

affect it gave me

Harriet, you have thought hard and have shared parts of your personality in you art. You have enjoyed exploring the different media we have used this term and have created some fabulous pieces. You are beginning to make choices as an artist to select media to create the effect you want like in your self portrait.

We are on the path to becoming self directed learners in Adventure 9. This means we are beginning to make choices that help us grow as learners. We know what we are learning and what we need to do to get better.

We plan our week choosing activities that are going to help us reach our goals. We plan all the must do’s and then add the can do’s.

I think
My Buddy thinks
I know what I am learning
I know what i’m learning in
my math’s writing and

Harriet, you carefully plan your learning time including the must dos and the can dos. You follow your plan and use your learning time wisely. You need to make sure you always know why you have chosen the activities you have and how they are going to help you achieve your learning goals.

Success Criteria:

Harriet, you are a fabulous member of Adventure 9. You are kind and caring and you always look out for other people, when they are hurt or when they need help. You are a great big buddy sharing you knowledge and learning with Zoe. I think you can work well in a team but remember you need to share your ideas, listen to the ideas of others and compromise, even if you think your ideas are better - that is what teamwork is about.
